For the first 11 months of the year, the city has recorded its lowest number of murders since the 1950s.  

NY1's Dean Meminger has found out exclusively that murders are down 17 percent compared to last year at this time.  

As of December 1, there were 259 murders. Last year, there were 313.

New York is on track to have fewer than 300 murders for all of 2017 in a city of 8.5 million people.

In terms of shootings, there have been 723, compared to 933 shootings last year at this time. That's a reduction of 22 percent.

The police commissioner and mayor are expected to talk about the statistics and other crime issues at a Monday morning news conference.
