Our weather this morning could be storm with a cold front approaching: rounds of rain are in store, and there's the chance for strong winds that could knock down trees.

What You Need To Know

  • Rainfall will be around 1"

  • Wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected

  • Be careful in parks and near construction sites

Be careful this morning and take the umbrella with you. The worst of the weather will be from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A cold front will push in from the west, bringing strong winds with gusts up to 50 mph. We could see downed trees. Also, there could be wind issues at construction sites, so pay extra attention when walking near scaffolding or parks. There will be rain, too.

Rainfall totals will be over an inch in parts of New York City. Widespread flooding isn't expected, but spot highway flooding issues are possible. The typical flooding spots are the FDR Drive, the West Side Highway and the Belt Parkway. The heaviest rains will happen from mid- to late-morning. We should dry out by 3 p.m.

Some flooding safety tips to remember: Never drive or walk into a flooded area. You don't know how deep it is and there could be hidden dangers under the water, such as electric lines. It only takes 6 inches of water to stall most cars, 12 inches of water can make most cars float.
