New Yorkers can expect a messy Wednesday evening rush with a few inches of snow forecast before it turns into rain later in the evening.

HOW MUCH SNOW CAN YOU EXPECT, AND WHEN?

As of Tuesday afternoon, NY1 was forecasting 1 to 2 inches of snow to accumulate by 9 p.m. Wednesday. Snow is expected to fall between 3 and 5 p.m. before it turns into rain by 9 p.m.

A Winter Weather Advisory is slated to be in effect for the city from noon Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. The city has advised people to stay off the roads and use mass transit when possible.

New York City hasn't seen much snow since the six inches in a November snowstorm that crippled traffic in some parts of the city — we've had just 2.4 inches since December 1. The average amount of snow the city usually sees at this point of the winter? 17 inches. We had 23 inches by this same point last year.

TEMPERATURE TREND

Temperatures are in the 30s Tuesday, with a projected low of 24 degrees. The high Wednesday will be about 32.

But New Yorkers can expect high temperatures in the 50s Thursday, along with early-morning rain. Highs Friday to Sunday are expected to range between the low 40s to possibly 50 degrees. Temperatures this month have been more than 3 degrees above normal in New York City.
