A high pressure system over the area gave the five boroughs bright sunshine on Sunday, but, conditions remained on the cold side as afternoon temperatures only reached the low-to-mid 30s.

Monday is looking cold and dry as well, however, an approaching winter storm will push a good deal of clouds into the area, and little if any sunshine will be seen. Afternoon temperatures are not expected to get out of the 30s.

As we move into Monday night, the wintry weather is expected to overspread the area. The precipitation will likely start out as snow, and remain that way through the morning hours on Tuesday. The snow is then expected to mix with sleet during the early afternoon hours, and then change to all rain towards evening. No significant accumulation is expected, but, the five boroughs could pick-up anywhere from 1 to 4 inches.

The storm system will exit the area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, but, brisk winds will take its place.
