The man who stole a Greyhound bus and drove it through the city has taken a plea that will send him to a mental health facility instead of prison.

Darius McCollum was charged with criminal impersonation and grand larceny for the 2015 incident.

He pleaded not guilty, citing mental illness.

The 52-year-old says he suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, which causes his extreme obsession with all things transit.

McCollum has been arrested more than 30 times in the past 30 years for impersonating transit workers.

His story was featured in the 2016 documentary "Off the Rails."
