NEW YORK — Before he can take the oath of office as the 110th mayor of the City, Eric Adams has to raise the money to pay for the pomp and circumstance.

Campaign Finance Board records released Tuesday show he's been hard at work: the mayor-elect raised almost $1 million almost immediately after he was elected.

What You Need To Know

  • The mayor-elect raised almost $1 million almost immediately after he was elected

  • Fred Wilpon, the real estate developer and former owner of the New York Mets, donated the maximum amount

  • Former mayoral candidate Bo Dietl, a former police officer and backer of Adams, also maxed out his donation

  • Steve Cohen, the hedge fund manager and current owner of the Mets, and his wife each gave the maximum

A total of 533 donors gave to the Adams transition campaign, which will also cover the cost of the inauguration, a ceremony which typically takes place on New Year's Day, right on the steps of City Hall. It's a momentous event for any mayor and the bill can run high.

The list of donors includes some prominent names in real estate, finance, tech and the arts.

  • Fred Wilpon, the real estate developer and former owner of the New York Mets, donated the maximum amount: $5,100
  • Former mayoral candidate Bo Dietl, a former police officer and backer of Adams, also maxed out his donation
  • Steve Cohen, the hedge fund manager and current owner of the Mets and his wife, each gave the maximum.
  • Big tech also chipped in: Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, who founded Winklevoss Capital Management and are big backers of cryptocurrency, also gave to the account.

In total, 101 donors gave Adams the maximum amount.

Shortly after he was elected, Adams traveled to Los Angeles for a taping of "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO. The records show that trip also led to some California fundraising. Adams paid nearly $1,200 to the Waldorf Astoria in LA, where he held fundraising meetings.

Adams didn't raise money from just California. Records show he collected 147 donations from outside New York City, a grand total of $364,670 accounting for 37% of his total donations.

By comparison, Adams is fast outpacing Mayor Bill de Blasio in the transition fundraising effort. Around this time in 2013, the current mayor had raised just a little over $600,000.
