WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the aftermath of The Atlantic publishing a damning report of President Donald Trump making disparaging remarks about members of the U.S. military who have been captured or killed, the president has found a new target: Laurene Powell Jobs, the billionaire philanthropist who is a majority investor in the magazine.

Jobs is the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who passed away from cancer in 2011.

Trump commented that the sixth-richest woman in the world is "wasting" the money that Steve Jobs left her by owning a majority stake in the magazine, and called for his followers to "Call her, write her, let her know how you feel!!!"

Trump was responding to a tweet from conservative personality Charlie Kirk, the chair of Students for Trump who spoke at the Republican National Convention in August, who pointed out that Jobs is a donor to the Biden campaign in addition to being a majority shareholder in the magazine.

Trump has denied the report, which has been confirmed in part by multiple news outlets, including CNN, the Associated Press, and Fox News. The Atlantic stands by their reporting.

The reporting from Fox News in particular seemed to draw the ire of the president, who posted a Tweet called for the firing of Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin, who confirmed the reporting.

Laurene Powell Jobs inherited billions of dollars worth of stock in both Apple and The Walt Disney Company from her late husband, who co-founded Apple and was the majority shareholder of Pixar, which Disney acquired in 2006.

She founded The Emerson Collective, which calls itself a "social change organization that uses a broad range of tools including philanthropy, impact investing, and policy solutions to create the greatest good for the greatest number of people." The Emerson Collective also owns a stake in Axios, as well as investments in a number of production companies, such as Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

Jobs has a net worth of $33.3 billion according to Bloomberg and $20.2 billion, according to Forbes. Jobs is the 30th richest person according to the former, and the 59th according to the latter, which combines her wealth with that of her family.

A representative for Jobs told CNN that the figure in Forbes is the most accurate depiction of her wealth.
