Cynthia Nixon on Monday called for her Democratic opponent in the governor's race to be held accountable for the state Democratic Party sending a mailer accusing her of anti-Semitism.
"This goes back to Andrew Cuomo and he needs to be held accountable and he can't just say this is a mistake or it's inappropriate," Nixon said. "He has to say it is offensive and it was wrong, and he hasn't said that."
The actor and activist also lambasted the governor for pushing for the speedy opening of the new Mario Cuomo Bridge only to have it remain closed out of safety concerns. Nixon said Cuomo put lives at risk, and she would not drive across the bridge. The bridge has been deemed safe and is scheduled to open Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders waded into New York's primary politics. The lefty lion endorsed Nixon's progressive counterparts Jumaane Williams, who is running for lieutenant governor, and attorney general candidate Zephyr Teachout. But Sanders steered clear of the governor's race.
"I am thrilled for Jumaane and I'm thrilled for Zephyr and I think it's really great for all the progressive candidates," Nixon said.
Nixon also found herself on the hot seat over a recent bagel order at Zabar's. She put lox and capers and cream cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel.
"Don't yuck my yum. Don't knock it until you've tried it," Nixon said with a smile as members of the news media asked her about her curious take on the New York City classic.
The bagel story is getting a lot of attention on social media. Perhaps, it will turn into a way to remind New Yorkers about the primary race and get them to the polls.
