A day after being called an "unqualified lesbian" by a top surrogate for Governor Andrew Cuomo, who later apologized, Cynthia Nixon seems to be having fun with her new title.

"One of Governor Cuomo's top surrogates dismissed me as an unqualified lesbian," Nixon said. "And I just want to say tonight that she was technically right, that I don't have my certificate from the Department of Lesbian Affairs."

On the question of whether the actress of “Sex and the City” fame is actually qualified to be governor, she says she is. But why?

"My chief aide has not been convicted on three counts of bribery. That’s a start," she said. "And I actually know that the MTA is controlled by the state. There's two things."

Those were just some of the shots she took at her political target, Cuomo, at a fundraiser Wednesday night. There were others she delivered to the crowd gathered inside the Stonewall Inn, an historic gay bar considered the birthplace of the gay rights movement.

"In our first day of fundraising this week, we received more small-donor donations than Governor Cuomo has received in seven years," Nixon said.

Earlier in the day, Cuomo was dismissive of Nixon's campaign.

"This is the political silly season at an especially bizarre time in politics," Cuomo said. "We're a democracy. Anybody can run. Anybody can say anything."

He was flanked by members of the national guard at a snowstorm press conference, and bragged that he could shovel more snow than anyone else.

"I am going to win that shoveling competition today. I know you're giving me the eye, but I am telling you," Cuomo said. "I am bigger and stronger than I look.''

Nixon seems like she's out to prove Cuomo can be beat. Perhaps, not in a snow-shoveling contest, but in the Democratic primary.
