Mayor Bill de Blasio is looking beyond the city to raise money for his re-election bid.

Along with First Lady Chirlane McCray, de Blasio traveled to Washington D.C. Thursday for a morning fundraiser at the American Federation of Teachers' headquarters.

Union president Randi Weingarten hosted the event along with another powerful labor leader, Lee Saunders.

Hillary Clinton's former campaign chairman John Podesta was also in attendance.

An aide to the mayor declined to say how much money was raised at the event.

Actor Steve Buscemi will host a fundraiser for the mayor next week in Manhattan.
