More than 1 million New Yorkers have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccination in New York, but better coordination between the federal government and state governments is needed to boost distribution, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said.

All told, 3 million COVID shots have been administered in New York as cases since a holiday surge have leveled off and hospitalizations over a 7-day average have also declined.

At the same time, millions more New Yorkers are now eligible to register for a COVID vaccination as the state has expanded vaccine eligibility to include people with underlying health conditions.

Cuomo said the issue in vaccine distribution in part remains where vaccines are going, and whether the federal and state governments are sending doses to the same distribution site like a commerical pharmacy. The National Governors Association is sending a letter to the Biden administration to boost coordination.

"we need better coordination between the state government and the federal government," he said.
