The 96th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade went off without a hitch in the city with tons of new additions and old favorites.

The parade began at 9 a.m. at Central Park West and 77th Street and proceeded down a 2.5-mile route, turning left at Columbus Circle down Central Park South and right onto Sixth Avenue. The parade concluded in front of Macy’s Herald Square at 34th Street.

The parade was broadcasted live on NBC and on its streaming platform, Peacock.

This year’s parade featured plenty of favorite balloons, but there were also several new additions, including popular children’s characters Bluey, Stuart the Minion, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and DINO and Baby DINO. A Baby Shark float also made a debut this year.

Bonnie Flesher came all the way from Texas. She was cheering on her granddaughter dancing in the parade. Her friends convinced her to go in person rather than watch on TV.

“Friends of ours said hey you’re not going to go to New York you see your granddaughter, and we were like, ‘hmm heck yea we got to go,’” Flesher said. “Just trying to get your spot closest to the parade is like ‘oh, it’s going to be so much fun.’”

Gabriella Palestra returned to the parade and was happy her brother Luca got to experience it.

“I came to the Thanksgiving day parade when I was my brother’s age and it’s nice to have him here and my cousin and experience what they experience,” Gabriella Palestra said.

“I was dreaming to go to NYC one day and I finally get to. It looks like a big city and a really cool place,” 7-year-old Luca Palestra added.

People at the parade had a lot to be grateful for.

“I’m very thankful for my friends, my family. I’m about to graduate nursing school,” parade watcher Kallie Hardin said.

“I’m really grateful for my family, my health, all the men and women serving,” Sandy Williamson from South Dakota said.

“I’m super thankful to be in NYC from small town South Dakota seeing the parade,” Alexis Dooley added.

The event was also star-studded, as usual, with appearances by Paula Abdul, Sean Paul, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, Mario Lopez, Jordin Sparks, the cast of the Muppets and more.

While the event concluded at noon, traffic will likely be impacted for several hours. Check here for the full list of street closures.
