A six-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being struck by a car Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn.

Police say the child ran into the road on 78th Street by 7th Ave. around 2:30 p.m.

The driver remained at the scene and is not facing any charges, police say.

The boy was rushed to a hospital in critical but stable condition, according to authorities.

At this time, it is not clear what caused the boy to run into the street.

Local resident Karen Chen told NY1 the young victim, along with his mother, father, and 10-month-old brother are her upstairs tenants.

She felt intense sorrow for the boy’s family.

“All nice people,” said Chen. “It’s tragic.”

Other parents who live nearby said what happened to the child is not only every parent’s nightmare, it’s every driver’s nightmare.

“I’m sure it was an accident, honest accident,” said Diana Jouve-Vazquez, who lives in the neighborhood. “But it’s a nice day, weather is getting nicer. We have to be a little more cautious with kids coming out, wanting to play. So just have to drive a little more carefully.”
