Unvaccinated transit workers are no longer required to submit a weekly COVID-19 test, a source with knowledge of the matter told NY1 Tuesday.

The testing program began in October 2021 when Gov. Kathy Hochul launched a vaccine-or-test mandate for non-health care workers at state agencies.

Transit workers who wish to voluntarily test for COVID-19 will continue to be able to do so at MTA testing centers through at least June 26, a source told NY1.

According to the transit agency, 77% of the MTA workforce is confirmed to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
