BRONX, N.Y. — So, who’s the borough president of the Bronx? Well, the city’s Department of Transportation thinks it’s Donovan Richards, according to one of their "Welcome to the Bronx" signs.

NY1 spotted the erroneous sign along the Hutchinson River Parkway in the Bronx as drivers enter the borough coming off of the Whitestone Bridge.

Vanessa Gibson is the new Bronx borough president and Ruben Diaz Jr. is the former.

Richards is the Queens borough president.

“Being the president of by far the best borough in New York City comes with an understanding that everyone always has Queens on their mind,” said Richards.

In a lighthearted statement about the sign, he added, “The Bronx and Borough President Gibson deserve their due as well, so I will happily cede this space and work with DOT to ensure that happens.”

So now, it has become a battle of the boroughs with Gibson poking fun at the transportation department and Richards.

“Well, we know the Bronx DOT office isn’t used to writing a woman’s name, so we understand,” said Gibson. “We also know the Bronx is the best borough and the REAL birthplace of Hip-Hop. Cuz if it wasn’t for the Bronx…….🎤🎤🎤#SorryNotSorryQueens.”

There’s been a long history of rap battles between the two boroughs and let’s not forget about the argument over which borough has the best baseball team.

The Department of Transportation updates borough signs as needed.

With a new mayor and four new borough presidents, several signs along highways needed to be changed.

Richards is the only BP not new to his office. He first became Queens borough president in December of 2020.

The Hutchinson River Parkway sign does correctly state the borough as the Bronx and Eric Adams as mayor.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the Bronx as Gibson starts her new role as BP. There’s been the deadly fire and a baby shot, so this sign mistake is not a big deal. But she jokingly said she didn't want to be pushed out already.

The Department of Transportation said the sign was replaced Wednesday morning.
