NEW YORK - The MTA is adding some extra service options next week in an effort to provide travelers with improved public transit options as they visit family and friends for Thanksgiving.

Both the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will offer extra early afternoon service on Wednesday Nov. 24, the MTA said in a press release. The two railroads are already offering tickets at off-peak prices through the end of this year, the release noted.

Travelers heading to LaGuardia Airport between Tuesday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 28 will be able to ride Q70 Select Bus Service buses to LaGuardia Terminals B, C and D for free, according to the release.

In an effort to help drivers, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will supend temporary daytime maintenance- and construction-related lane closures from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24 through the end of morning rush hour on Monday, Nov. 29.

On Thanksgiving Day, subways and buses in the five boroughs will operate on a Sunday schedule, with additional service on some Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade-bound routes; the Staten Island Railway will operate on a Saturday schedule; Metro-North will operate on a Saturday schedule, with additional service before and after the parade; and the LIRR and Metro-North's West of Hudson service will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule, with additional service pre- and post-parade.

Additional details about the MTA's Thanksgiving-week service changes are available on the agency's website.
