NYPD Chief of Department Rodney Harrison on Saturday told NY1 he was confident there would be enough vaccinated officers to patrol the five boroughs come Monday.

That's when unvaccinated municipal employees will be placed on unpaid leave, per the city's vaccination mandate.

What You Need To Know

  • As of Saturday, 84% of the NYPD had gotten at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot

  • Thousands of officers have requested medical or religious expemptions from the vaccination mandate

  • Exemption requests are being reviewed

Harrison also spoke about crime levels across the city and Halloween safety. As of Saturday, shootings year-to-date were down about 2% compared to last year at the same time. That's a major improvement from the beginning of the summer, when shootings were up, he said.

On a personal note for Harrison, two of his daughters, Amber and Tyra, were sworn in as NYPD officers this past week. Their mom is a retired NYPD lieutenant.
