There are now 81,000 electric vehicles registered in New York State.

The number of electric cars on the road in New York is rising, but it's still a small fraction of the 11 million total vehicles registered statewide.

Automakers are moving toward a future where all cars are electric, but the big obstacle in New York City is charging.

In almost every other place in the country, the vision for the electric cars involves charging in one's own driveway at night.

NY1's Pat Kiernan met with Tim Cawley, the CEO of ConEd, to talk about their efforts to get electric car power in the places where people need it.

They also spoke about a major climate vulnerability study that was done for the utility in 2019.

The study points to two "related" long-term changes: Higher temperatures and rising sea levels.
