NEW YORK - It was a matinee day - standing room only on the Lower East Side on Saturday as New Yorkers were treated to an impromptu performance by two of Broadway’s best.

What You Need To Know

  • The rain didn't stop the newly launched New York PopsUp festival from bringing live entertainment to some lucky New Yorkers last Saturday

  • The PopsUp festival is set to run through Labor Day, with over 300 performances across the state and in all five boroughs

  • It's a new program dedicated to help reviving the arts in New York

The concert was part of the NY PopsUp Festival, a new program dedicated to help reviving the arts in New York. Tony winner Gavin Creel and "Wicked" alum Shoshana Bean took center window at 81 Essex Street.

I caught up with Gavin right before his show, which he called a rehearsal exhibition, and we had to get creative for the interview with COVID-19 safety measures strictly in place.

"This is the weirdest interview I have ever done," said Creel.

And while the weather was a bit gloomy at the start of the performance, the rain stopped and New Yorkers gathered to watch and even dance.

The New York PopsUp initiative is set to run through Labor Day. For more info head to NYPopsUp.com.
