Outgoing Congressman Max Rose, who recently lost his re-election bid in a bitter campaign against Republican Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis appears to be setting his sights on a run for mayor.

According to the New York City Campaign Finance Board website, Rose opened a campaign account late Thursday listing him as a candidate for the 2021 mayoral election cycle.

Several requests for comment to Rose's office were not returned.

On Twitter, Rose made a reference to pop music artist Taylor Swift who is releasing an album Thursday evening as he hinted at news of an announcement.

".@Taylorswift13 is not the only one previewing news tonight. Stay tuned NYC!!" he wrote.

Opening a campaign account is usually the first step as candidates contemplate getting into the primary race. It also allows them to raise money and solicit donations.

Rose would join a crowded Democratic primary field and have to appeal to voters beyond the borders of his district which covers all of Staten Island and parts of Southern Brooklyn.

Rose is a military veteran and is considered a moderate among members of the Democratic party. He would likely appeal to more conservative voters who believe the city's policies have veered too far left in recent years.
