Multiple pedestrians who were part of a protest were struck by a vehicle in Manhattan Friday, the NYPD said.

Police say it happened just after 4 p.m. near Third Avenue and 39th Street in Murray Hill.

An organizer who spoke to NY1 said the protest was in solidarity with ICE detainees at the Bergen County Jail who are on a hunger strike.

Fire officials said at least six people were transported to local hospitals.

The vehicle stayed on scene, according to the NYPD, and the NYPD said the female driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody.

Police have not said whether the incident was intentional or accidental.

Police said there were approximately 50 people protesting at the time.
