The High Line is one of the most popular places in New York's list of top attractions. Like most things in the city, it was impacted by the pandemic. First it was shut down temporarily. Then it was partially reopened in July. On September 5, the High Line expanded public access.

What You Need To Know

  • The High Line will open from Gansevoort Street through 30th Street, seven days a week

  • The park is limiting the number of visitors

  • Visitors are encouraged to make reservations online in advance

  • A limited number of walk up tickets will be allowed each day

"I think it's great, especially attractions like the High Line that are outdoors. I feel safe," said Megah Ranganathan.

Visitors had been limited to walk from the Gansevoort entrance to West 23rd Street in Chelsea.

Now they can make their way to Hudson Yards, take in the city views and enjoy this steel marvel.

"Free is a good price. This is a landscape architect's dream and it's free," said Dennis Rominger.

"It's a great time to be a tourist. We were at the Staten Island Ferry yesterday, no lines. We had great views," added Michael Byrd. He visited from Seattle.

There are some changes. Masks must be worn at all times. Only one-way pedestrian traffic is allowed. Visits are timed. The new rules did not stop people from out of state from stopping by.

Some said they were grateful to have more space to explore and help tourism in the city bounce back.

Neil and Nancy Celentano live in Flushing, Queens. They boarded a 7 train to visit the High Line.

"It's very important because it gives the economy a great lift and the vibrancy of the city," he said.

"We were just commenting this morning how few people there are on the subway and buses," she added.

Visitors are encouraged to make reservations online because only a limited number of walk-up tickets are available each day.

The High Line is limiting the number of people allowed at the park at one time. Visitors must practice social distancing.
