A Con Edison request for customers in Brooklyn to conserve energy while company crews repair equipment is over, the utility said early Thursday evening.

The utility said it reduced voltage eight percent in western Brooklyn to protect equipment and maintain service during the repairs.

About 96,000 customers were affected across Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Borough Park.

The voltage reduction also affected the Windsor Terrace, Kensington, Borough Park, Flatbush, Dyker Heights, and Bensonhurst neighborhoods.

The impacted areas included parts of Third and Fourth Street, the Narrows, Gravesend Bay, Fort Hamilton Parkway, Fifth Avenue, and Gowanus Bay.

The company said the equipment problems in these neighborhoods was not affecting the rest of its grid.

Residents in those neighborhoods were advised to avoid using major appliances like dishwashers and dryers, and to keep air conditioner use to a minimum.
