Tenants in Brooklyn are calling on Governor Cuomo to suspend rent payments.

Dozens gathered in Bushwick for a banner drop last night.

The group marched to landlords' properties in the neighborhood, followed by several police cars.

Protesters say they shouldn't be expected to pay rent when unemployment is still at historic highs.

"Those of us who pay rent are those who bear the burden of that, and if the landlords aren't going to work with us to share the burden, then we have to look to our elected officials to do something about it,” said one person.

“This was a peaceful protest and the police were there with their batons out and then they wonder why we think they should be defunded,” said Lea Delaria, an actor.

Governor Cuomo signed an executive order extending the rent moratorium through next month.

That means tenants can't be evicted for missed payments due to unemployment from the pandemic.
