NEW YORK - It's a big day for city beachgoers as swimming is allowed for the first time since they opened for the season.

It comes just in time for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Several beaches have been open since Memorial Day weekend but with no swimming and other restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lifeguards at city beaches will be on duty from 10 a.m. to p.m.

Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections of beachfront.

Beachgoers are still urged to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
