BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A child is dead after getting hit by a car in Brooklyn Thursday morning.

Police say the 7-year-old boy and his mother were struck at the intersection of Blake and Pennsylvania Avenues in East New York around 8:30 a.m.

They were both taken to the hospital where the child was pronounced dead.

The condition of his mother is unknown.

Police say the driver did remain on the scene.

This is the second child to be fatally hit by a car in the neighborhood this week.

On Tuesday, a 10-year-old Patience Albert was struck and killed by a school bus at the intersection of Crescent Street and Wortman Avenue.
