NEW YORK - Ridership on MTA buses dropped significantly in 2019, marking the sixth straight year of declines.

According to MTA figures, average daily ridership dropped by 42,000 trips in 2019, totaling 1.73 million rides.

That continues a years-long decline in bus ridership.

Transit officials say buses are often stuck in traffic.

To get buses moving, the MTA is getting more dedicated bus lanes and bus mounted cameras to ticket drivers who block them.

The MTA is also undertaking a controversial plan to totally redraw bus routes in each borough.
