Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defended her decision to withhold money from the Democratic Party and build her own fundraising operation instead.

Fox News reported that Ocasio-Cortez failed to pay $250,000 in dues to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Also known as the DCCC, the committee works to elect Democrats to the House of Representatives.

Instead, Fox News says the progressive congresswoman is actively funding primary challengers to some of her Democratic colleagues. When asked by The Hill if she planned to pay the dues, she replied "I don't think so."

In a tweet, Ocasio-Cortez said she has fundraised over $300,000 for Democrats with more than 50 percent of that money going to swing seats.

She went on to say, "DCCC made clear that they will blacklist any organization that helps progressive candidates like me. I can choose not to fund that kind of exclusion."
