An official with the Department of Education (DOE) has been fired after being arrested for allegedly facilitating child sex abuse.

David Hay was taken into custody Sunday in Wisconsin following an undercover investigation.

Hay had been serving as deputy chief of staff to Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza. Hay is accused of facilitating a child sex crime over the Internet.

The DOE says it will fully comply with any investigation.

In a statement, the department said, "These allegations are incredibly disturbing and absolutely unacceptable. We took immediate action removing Mr. Hay from payroll and are terminating him."
