A Florida man has been charged with assault as a hate crime after a 65-year-old Jewish man was attacked in Manhattan, according to the city police department.

Police said 28-year-old Steven Jorge of Miami yelled an anti-Semitic slur at the man before punching him in the face Monday morning — the first day of Hanukkah — on East 41st Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

Jorge was apprehended a short time later. The victim was treated at the scene.

Mayor Bill de Blasio condemned the attack:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo also weighed in, ordering the State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to help the NYPD with the case.

"We have absolutely zero tolerance for bigotry and hate, and we will continue to call it out whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head," the governor said.
