NEW YORK - The party yachts that were supposed to lure some SantaCon goers away from the city and onto the East River this weekend have been cancelled.

About 20,000 partygoers dressed as Santa and Ms. Claus hit the streets and bars of Manhattan every year.

But the annual event has become a nuisance for many residents because some people act in a disorderly manner each year.

As a solution to the problem, Fireball Whiskey was set to sponsor five free party yachts on Saturday.

But the yacht parties were cancelled after a local officials sent a letter to NY Waterway questioning how the event would minimize disruption.

DOCK NYC, a subsidiary of NY Waterways, says the boat owners canceled the yacht parties after DOCK NYC informed them that they would have to clear the parties with the NYPD.
