NEW YORK - The NYPD is exploring options to relocate their Pier 76 tow pound in Manhattan to develop that waterfront area.

Officials say a study is underway to determine where to move the pound.

The lot at 38th Street on the West Side has been used since the 70's.

The move could pave the way for an expansion of Hudson River Park.

Some of the land could also be used for commercial development.

"It's not easy to find a space like that in a central location in Manhattan. And there's a very fair argument at the same time that we could do a lot better things with that space," said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

City Hall officials expect the results of the study by the end of the year.
