Governor Cuomo says he supports Andy Byford after the Transit President drafted and later rescinded a resignation letter last week.

However, Cuomo stressed that he does not make the decisions about Byford's job.

There was reported tension between Byford and Governor Cuomo over an MTA reorganization that left Byford with less control over the subway's rebuilding.

Cuomo addressed Byford's concerns that he was micromanaging the MTA over its proposed capital budget.

"I think Andy Byford is a good guy, I think the MTA is going through a transition now. I did say before we invest $50 billion of taxpayers' money and before we have another fare increase on the MTA, they have to get their act together," Governor Cuomo said.

Cuomo says the MTA has to be more efficient in order to get additional state funding.
