More than a thousand volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help spruce up several New York City Public Schools Saturday, October 19th.

New York Cares hosted its 28th annual volunteer event across the five boroughs. It’s devoted to engaging community members in the revitalization of fifteen city public schools. The facilities got new paint, organized bookshelves and clean classrooms.

At P.S 38 in East Harlem, volunteers know their work is going towards a great cause. One of the many who pitched in, René Brinkley, says “I want them to feel excited and ready to learn, participate and be engaged.  We want New York kids to get the best education possible and whatever we could to help them get that, that’s what we want to do.”
