Hampton Smith, 78, was killed Friday afternoon, along with his girlfriend, 62-year-old Yvette Rivera. They were shot to death, allegedly by their own neighbor who then turned the gun on killed himself, according to police.

Smith was the super of a building on West 131st, but the couple lived just a few town homes down the block in a second floor apartment, directly above the alleged shooter, Bruce Anderson.

Police say Smith got into an argument with Anderson, who then shot him in the head.

Rivera was later found upstairs, also dead in the hallway. The super here says the suspect often complained about noise and didn’t talk to the other tenants.

“He never said nothing, never had conversation,” said Edgar Palacios.

Police who were called to the scene say Anderson barricaded himself in his apartment after shooting the couple.

He is said to be heard yelling “come and get it” to cops.

According to police, he then set his place on fire and turned the gun on himself. Police and fire crews eventually were able to get into the apartment where they found two fire arms.

Family members of Ms. Rivera came to the building where the bloodshed took place, but they did not want to talk on camera.

Meanwhile, neighbors are trying to come to grips with the loss.

“They’re nice,” said one neighbor. “They don’t bother nobody.”

There are many theories of what sparked the initial argument, but the investigation is ongoing.
