New Yorkers honor the sacrifice of police and first responders today as they remember a 9/11 hero.

Hundreds took part in the annual "Tunnel to Towers" 5-K Run and Walk Sunday morning.

The run retraces firefighter Stephen Siller’s final footsteps.

The firefighter strapped on his gear that devastating day and ran from Brooklyn through the Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center.

He was killed when the south tower collapsed.

The race started at Red Hook's Ikea parking lot, made its way through the tunnel, and wrapped up at the corners of West and Murray Streets in Battery Park City.

A moment of silence was held before the race began to honor fallen NYPD office Brian Mulkeen, who was shot and killed in the Bronx overnight.
