NEW YORK - Sources tell NY1 the gun used to shoot an NYPD officer on Staten Island this week was stolen from another police officer.

Officer Venesa Medina was released from the hospital Wednesday after undergoing surgery on her hand.

On Tuesday, Medina was one of four officers responding to a domestic violence call in Clifton.

Police say the suspect, 39-year-old Gregory Edwards resisted arrest and was tasered by officers.

Medina was shot in the wrist after Edards allegedly pulled out a gun and fired on officers.

The officers fired back, killing Edwards.

Police Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch says the officers acted correctly for the situation.

Police say Edwards had a long criminal record, which included domestic assault and weapons charges.
