Complete strangers embraced Mary and Angel Ferachio, together mourning the loss of 10-year-old Enzo Farrachio, whose shoe and glasses were left behind in the wreckage.

The Ferachio’s were planning a birthday trip to Six Flags later this month for Enzo Ferachio, a lover of roller coasters. “Just a boy full of life,” his Uncle Christian Pena said.

“He loved the dog, he loved outdoor activities. He loved baseball,” Pena added.

Instead, the grieving family is planning a funeral after Enzo was killed while waiting for a city bus Tuesday just before 3 p.m.

That’s when an out of control driver in a Silver Lexus SUV jumped the curb and struck Enzo on Ocean Avenue near Avenue L in Midwood. The driver had a nine-year-old girl in the car. The vehicle only came to a stop when it crashed into nearby scaffolding.

Enzo’s uncle said it was his first week taking the city bus alone.

The driver was not immediately charged.

Officials at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office say the incident is under investigation and that the man behind the wheel may have had a medical episode. Surveillance video of the crash is too graphic to air circulated online.

“We really need to know what is going on,” said Pena. “We saw the video, how fast this guy was going and now they’re saying it is a medical condition. We don’t believe that.”

He says the car appeared to be going well over the 25 mile per hour speed limit, and, medical incident or not, they don’t want this tragedy to happen to any other family.

“We want everyone to help us not only for him, but many children that are waiting for the bus. It is not fair,” Pena said.

City Councilmember Chaim Deutsch spent Tuesday evening with Enzo’s parents. He said his father, Angel, prays that he can use the tragedy to bring about change to the city’s streets. The council member vowed to help make them safer for all.

Enzo’s grieving parents did not wish to speak in front of cameras.

His mother did tell the Daily News she would have preferred her son take the school bus home, but on that day the school bus was already gone. Her son opted to take the city bus, ensuring her he knew what to do.

A rally by safety advocates is planned for Wednesday at the site of the crash.
