One construction worker was killed and five others were injured after a partial building collapse in the Bronx on Tuesday afternoon, the city fire department said.

The residential building under construction, at 92 East 208th Street in Norwood, partially collapsed shortly before 12 p.m., officials said, crashing bricks and metal onto the workers.

It took an hour to rescue one worker, officials said. The fire department said it was not able to communicate with the victim, who appeared to be crushed, while on the scene.

The worker who died was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said. Their name was not released as of this writing.

Two of the workers suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.

The victims were working on the second floor when the third floor collapsed onto them, the FDNY said. A cause has not been confirmed.

The building was being erected in between two larger buildings.
