QUEENS, N.Y. - The famous Pepsi-Cola sign in Queens has some new company and not everyone is happy about it.

A JetBlue logo was added earlier this week as part of a temporary promotion announcing the airline is now serving Pepsi products on board its flights.

The sign, which once stood atop a Pepsi bottling plant nearby, was designated a city landmark back in 2016.

Both companies received permission from the city Landmarks Preservation Commission to add the signage.

However, some who pass by the sign on a daily basis say the change is a big mistake.

"Because the way it was originally, it was iconic. I don't think they should have made any changes to it," said one New Yorker.

"I guess it's not too bad, super commercial though. I mean this is like a landmark, they're just putting an ad on it. Not really into it but if it's not permanent, I guess it's not that bad," noted another New Yorker.

JetBlue, which bills itself as "New York's hometown airline", is headquartered in Long Island City.

The company commented on the advertisement, saying "JetBlue and Pepsi are two iconic New York-based brands. We are excited to temporarily transform the East River waterfront and bring new light to this historic landmark."
