NEW YORK - An off-duty NYPD officer and another person are dead after a fiery crash in Manhattan over the weekend.

Police say 24-year-old Kimberly Lajara was driving a 2016 Mercedes Benz when she lost control while going southbound on the Henry Hudson Parkway near 98th Street early Sunday morning.

That's when they say she went on the median and hit a tree before the vehicle burst into flames.

Lajara was assigned to the 121st precinct on Staten Island and would have been on the force two years this October.

The passenger, 32-year-old Oscar Monegro, also died in the crash.

Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted his condolences saying "We are mourning the loss of one of the city's finest." Going on to say, "we send our deepest condolences to their family, friends, and brothers and sisters in the NYPD."
