A protest gets heated as supporters of Eric Garner stage a sit-in outside Gracie Mansion.

Leaders from the National Action Network blocked traffic on East End Avenue.

Five people were arrested.

Emotions ran high during a march, as police tried to keep the protesters to the sidewalk.

Ultimately, they were allowed to march through the streets.

Protesters say they're trying to send a message to the mayor to fire Officer Daniel Pantaleo, following the Justice Department's decision not to pursue civil rights charges against him.

"The community is crying out because we're tired of seeing the same thing happen over and over again with no justice, like when are we gonna get justice, what has to happen for police officers to be held accountable when they take the lives of innocent people," said one protester.

"You see the guy strangling him on the floor and then you're telling me you didn't strangle him. It's just disheartening to see that," said another.

Garner's mother, Gwen Carr, says she told the mayor that every officer involved in her son's death should have been fired years ago.

Mayor de Blasio says he has spoken with Carr about the next steps in the City's disciplinary process.

An NYPD trial wrapped up last month against Pantaleo, and he could be fired if found guilty.
