With rent reforms in the rear view mirror, state lawmakers in Albany are working to hammer out a deal to legalize recreational marijuana in the state.

Sources tell NY1's Zack Fink the leaders of the Senate and Assembly are close to an agreement and that a final proposal could be released Sunday night.

It follows the outline of Governor Cuomo's proposal to allow marijuana sales through dispensaries.

There would also be money for police to crack down on people who drive while high.

If the bill is posted by Sunday night, legislators would be able to vote on it by Wednesday, the final day of the current legislative session.

The bill was discussed in a closed-door conference by Assembly Democrats late into Thursday evening.

Sources say the bill appeared to have strong support within the Democratic conference.
