Police sources tell NY1 the person responsible for a brutal double stabbing in Brooklyn could be related to the victims.

On Saturday night around 7 p.m., police found 71-year-old Maria Rodriguez dead and her 87-year-old husband injured in their home on Garden Street in Bushwick.

Right now, police are still trying to figure out what exactly happened.

Investigators carried out evidence bags Sunday morning, about 12 hours after the attack.

Neighbors say they are surprised about this incident.

"My condolences to the family, I'm so sorry for your loss," said one neighbor. "She was the sweetest old lady that I've ever probably met. She was so to herself. I mean, I can't believe it."

Rodriguez's husband was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with a slash wound to his arms and a stab wound to the chest.

No arrests have been made at this time.
