NEW YORK - The New York Rangers have formally welcomed back John Davidson as their team's new president.

Davidson played goalie for the Blueshirts in the 1970s and 80s, and helped lead them to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1979.

He then served as color commentator for Rangers games on MSG for 20 years.

Davidson returns to New York after successful runs as president of the Blues and the Blue Jackets.

He says he's ready to rebuild the Rangers into a Cup contender.

"I've had the great opportunity to do it twice, once in St. Louis, once in Columbus. We have a great staff here. We've got already many young pieces in place. We're gonna get them, they're going to be stars in the National Hockey League and the Rangers are going to be better for it," Davidson said.

Davidson replaces Glen Sather, who retired after 19 seasons with the Rangers.
