With the weather getting warmer, families will start heading to the beach, and next month, the city will open its many outdoor pools for the season. So the USA Swimming Foundation is touring the country, on a mission to give every child in America the opportunity to learn how to swim.

Olympic champions Simone Manuel and Cullen Jones, a Bronx native, joined "Your News Live at Noon" to talk about keeping kids safe in and around the water.

Jones says he almost drowned at a water park with his family as a child. He says that's when his parents signed him up for swimming lessons.

Their "Make a Splash" tour is teaching kids in all 50 states how to swim.

"We're giving swim lessons to every kid we possibly can," Manuel said. "The drowning rates are super high, and so we really want to reduce that and just make swimming an experience for everyone, not only competitively but also just to have a very fun sense of livelihood, being able to go to the water park or the beach, and being able to be safe around the water."
