STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - A Staten Island woman is suing the food company that manufactures PAM, claiming she was set on fire by an exploding can of cooking spray.

Maria Mariani is one of six plaintiffs' represented by a Connecticut-based law firm who is suing the Conagra Company.

Mariani says she was warming up her apartment by using the stove, when a nearby can exploded, setting fire to her hair and body.

NY1 is told the fire charred nearly 30-percent of her skin.

Now she's looking to make sure nobody else suffers the same accident she did.

"They should discontinue it, it's very dangerous. Were one to buy it and purchase it, if we're going to keep it by the stove, or use it for baking purposes or cooking, I personally think oil or water should be enough. But I personally hope they discontinue the product," Mariani said.

In a statement, PAM said, "All sprays include clear warnings that the product should be used responsibly as it is flammable, that it should not be left on a stove or near a heat source, and should not be sprayed near an open flame."
