A 3-year-old child was killed Thursday afternoon in Brooklyn after he was pinned underneath a commercial van, sources told NY1.

Police said Emur Shavkator was in a crosswalk with his mother when the van struck him just after 12:45 p.m. on Bay 25th Street near Benson Avenue in Bath Beach, according to authorities.

The child was taken to Coney Island Hospital with trauma to his head and torso and pronounced dead. The mother was not seriously hurt, police said.

Johnny Gonzalez, 61, who was driving the Skittles van, has been charged with Failure to Yield to Pedestrian and Failure to Exercise Due Care. A preliminary investigation found he was driving the van south on 25th Street and tried to make a right turn when he hit Emur. Gonzalez remained at the scene.

"We are devastated to learn of the tragic event that occurred earlier today in Brooklyn. We will support the authorities on their investigation, and our deepest sympathies are with the family," a spokesperson for Skittles's parent company said in a statement sent to NY1.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said he has asked the city transportation department to investigation the safety of the intersection.

"In my opinion, I don't like to come through here because they ignore the stop signs a lot. They just keep going right through, especially when I have to pick her up," one man said with his child. "So I usually go the other way or further up."

"This block is normally quiet because they just put stop signs over here, about six months ago, in both corners, so I'm surprised," another man said.
