A sheep found tied to a tree in Brooklyn is now in safe hands.

Officials say the animal was found inside Coney Island Creek Park near West 37th Street and Bayview Avenue in Seagate on Thursday night.

NYPD crews untied the sheep and took him to Animal Care Centers of New York City in Manhattan.

Police say the sheep was not injured, but he was dirty and had an overgrown, matted fleece. It is unclear who the sheep belongs to, or how long it was tied to the tree.

The sheep was picked up from Manhattan Friday morning by Farm Sanctuary and will undergo a full medical examination before heading to the organization's farm in Watkins Glenn, New York.
