A top city education official abruptly resigned this week amid an investigation, NY1 has learned.

Peter Quinn, who had been chief information officer for the city Department of Education since November 2016, is the subject of an inquiry by the school system’s independent corruption monitor, sources say.

Quinn, who made $188,000 a year, oversaw all technology support, broadband maintenance and expansion, and data security efforts for the department and the city’s 1,800 public schools.

The Department of Education says Quinn resigned by mutual agreement. Deputy Chief Operating Officer Lauren Siciliano will run instructional and information technology during the search for Quinn’s permanent replacement.

In 2006, Quinn resigned from his job as chief technology officer for the State of Massachusetts after being cleared in an investigation into alleged use of public funds for personal travel.
